NEW YORK, NY (April12, 2024) – Edged Energy announced today a new state-of-the-art sustainable data center in Irving, Texas, a major business epicenter in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Known as Edged Dallas, the facility will be built for high-density AI workloads and equipped with advanced waterless cooling and ultra-efficient energy systems. Yesterday marked a critical milestone for the new Edged facility when the Irving City Council voted unanimously in support of the development. Edged has nearly a dozen new data centers operating or under construction across Europe and North America and a gigawatt-scale project pipeline.
Located at 505 North Wildwood Drive, east of Highway 12 and south of Highway 183, Edged Dallas will deliver 24 MW of critical capacity, conserve critical local water resources and minimize energy usage. Edged facilities are designed to provide an industry-leading average Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.15 portfolio-wide. At a time of growing water scarcity where rivers, aquifers and watersheds nationwide are at dangerously low levels, Edged Dallas is expected to save nearly 95 million gallons of water each year compared to conventional data centers.
“Sustainability is at the core of our platform. It is why our data centers are uniquely optimized for energy efficiency and water conservation,” said Bryant Farland, Chief Executive Officer for Edged. “We are excited to be partnering with the Irving Economic Development Partnership (IEDP) and City of Irving, a thriving tech hub that shares our commitment to innovation and advancing technology for positive impact. Together, we are delivering world-class connectivity and future-proof solutions to support the region’s booming digital economy.”
“We are very excited to welcome Edged Dallas to Irving. Our city has all the right elements to be a world-class destination for vital data infrastructure,” said Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer. “Irving’s common-sense approach to regulations and taxes, our large and talented workforce and existing physical infrastructure links make us well positioned to attract companies seeking to fill the need for computing horsepower created by artificial intelligence and other applications. We are especially pleased this project will be in South Irving, and we hope it will catalyze similar successful developments in the area going forward.”
“On behalf of our member-investors and board of directors, I would like to welcome Edged Dallas and its partners home to Irving,” said Beth A. Bowman, President & CEO of the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber and Irving Economic Development Partnership. “This project is a major vote of confidence in Irving as a destination for the data infrastructure needed to keep our current and future digital economy moving. Our city’s central location, global accessibility and pro-business outlook provide a significant opportunity for data center companies looking to establish or grow their presence in our region.”
Edged Dallas will be outfitted with the ThermalWorks waterless cooling system, designed to support the intense demands of generative AI and advanced computing. The modular system supports densities of up to 70 kW per rack with air cooling and 200 kW per rack with plug-and-play liquid cooling integration. Unlike other waterless cooling solutions, this advanced technology is ultra-efficient, which helps Edged dramatically reduce energy overhead by 74% compared with the global average PUE of 1.58 reported by the Uptime Institute.
Edged Dallas, LLC is a subsidiary of Endeavour devoted to data center infrastructure. It will join a growing network of Edged data centers currently under construction across the U.S., including in Atlanta, Chicago and Kansas City. The facility is expected to open later this Fall. Several more U.S. sites are expected to break ground in major urban markets in the coming months.
